Hey hey friend! I’m glad you stopped by!! I made a capsule wardrobe about two years ago when I realized that my closet was getting out of hand! I love it so much because picking out clothes is soooo easy (everything goes together) and I genuinely LOVE every piece of clothing I own. It’s gotten me out the boredom shopping habit, the list goes on.
Making a capsule wardrobe can be intimidating though! It can be quite a chore to go through all of your clothes and then getting rid of a lot of them is a whole other story! In my capsule wardrobe video (below) I gave you the first 3 steps to start a capsule wardrobe, but I also want to give you a few tips:
#1. You don’t need to create every capsule right away. I created each capsule a few weeks before I needed to bust them out. I already had a handful of clothes in each one, but I didn’t worry about purchasing anything new until I was close to needing those items. The nice thing is you’ll only need to do this once and I personally wanted to make sure I was buying clothes that were in season instead of shopping for sweaters for my Fall capsule in the Spring. It’s, of course, up to you, but if the idea of making them back to back stresses you out or isn’t financially an option, space out making them.
#2. Only pick pieces that you love love love. This is part of the point of a capsule wardrobe. You might notice, when you’re going through your clothes, that there’s a lot that you feel indifferent about. This is a habit that the capsule wardrobe concept tries to break: buying clothes out of boredom or because there’s a sale and ending up with a bunch of clothes we barely ever wear or don’t even like that much. Only keep and purchase items that you are obsessed with! It might take a bit longer to shop for items that fit this description and it might mean a return or two, but when your capsule wardrobe is done, you’ll love it so much more.
#3. Don’t stress out about numbers. Picking the number of items you’ll have in each capsule can be tough. There’s a lot of suggestions online, but no one can tell you what feels right for you. I would recommend doing some thinking on this, but keep in mind that there are no rules. Remember that you don’t have to include everything in your capsule. For example, I don’t include my workout or work clothes in my capsule wardrobes. Some people don’t include their shoes and accessories in theirs. It 100% depends on you and what you’re comfortable with. You can always add or return/ give away items if you feel like you’re lacking or have too much. Don’t stress this is supposed to be fun!
